Name competition for the new ferry is open

A name competition for the new ferry for Wasaline has been launched. The new Wasaline ferry, equipped with Wärtsilä 31DF (Dual Fuel) engines is the first hybrid ferry in the world running on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) or Liquified Bio Gas (LBG) and batteries.

“We are conducting an open name competition for the new most environmentally friendly passenger ferry in the world. We invite everyone to brainstorm by launching a name competition, which starts today. We hope to get many creative suggestions for the new vessel.”, says Peter Ståhlberg, CEO of Wasaline.

The main prize for the competition is a cruise on the maiden voyage in the spring of 2021. The competition will run for the whole month of November.

The construction of the new ferry for Kvarken Link has started at the Rauma Marine Constructions shipyard and it will replace the existing Wasa Express in traffic in the spring of 2021. It will be operated by Wasaline and sail between Vaasa in Finland and Umeå in Sweden.
